Different Forms of Insurance

Insurance has many different faces. Here are some of the main types of insurance in the world of health care:
Travel insurance provides coverage for illnesses, injuries or death resulting from accidents while traveling.
Specified disease insurance provides benefits for only specified diseases, usually cancer or heart disease. People who have a particular disease that runs in their family need to get this type of disease. This is also good to get because people who have survived cancer may have a hard time finding a standard health policy later in life.
Accident only insurance covers accidents but not sickness. The types of benefits that one gets from this policy include death, dismemberment, disability and/or hospital expenses.
Hospital income insurance pays someone who is hospitalized a specified amount of money either on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Blanket insurance automatically covers a group of people and not individuals. This type of policy works for groups like students, volunteers, athletes or passengers and will cover liabilities and injuries.
Long-term care insurance covers care for people with disabilities or chronic diseases. This type of policy usually includes nursing home care and home-based care, depending on the type of policy selected.
Dental insurance coverage will sometimes be included in your policy but may be left out if your insurance policy is through your employer. Many insurance companies do not provide individual dental insurance or will provide individual dental insurance. It is better to buy it for a whole family or to become a member of a dental discount policy.
Prescription drugs will usually be included in your company’s policy but may not cover you as much as you need or come as an optional benefit. It is smart to get prescription drug coverage because prescription costs continually rise.
